Thomas County Schools has partnered with EyeMed to provide your vision wellness program. This plan offers you an affordable way to maintain your health with routine eye exams while saving money on your eyewear and eye care needs. The Thomas County Schools Vision Plan with EyeMed allows you to choose from many providers using the EyeMed Select Network. The plan covers an eye exam, frames, and lenses (either contacts or eyeglass lenses). The plan includes Lasik and PRK Vision Correction at a 15% discount.
For 2025, you are able to receive your exam services and lenses (or contacts in lieu of lenses) once every calendar year, and your frame benefit once every 24 months.
If your spouse, including a legally separated or divorced spouse, is also a current employee of Thomas County Schools, you and your spouse cannot have duplicate coverage. Duplication of coverage is not allowed. In addition, if you and your spouse, including a legally separated or divorced spouse, have children, only one parent can cover dependent children. In the event double coverage is elected, claims are subject to denial.

We encourage all employees to have an annual eye exam with a doctor of optometry, even if you have clear vision. It’s important to be proactive in taking care of your eyesight. Many vision problems with discreet symptoms go undetected for long periods of time. When vision problems are not addressed in a timely manner, they can lead to larger health complications down the road.
It is recommended to get an eye exam at least once a year, especially over the age of 40 when the risk of vision problems and other health conditions increases. Eye exams can detect signs of serious health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer.
The American Optometric Association also encourages children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years receive an eye exam by a licensed pediatric optometrist to ensure their vision is properly developing in the early stages of life. After that, annual eye exams are recommended.
Your vision benefits are based on a calendar year schedule, with eligibility for exams, lenses, and frames determined by the date of your last service.
Example 1: If you receive an exam, frames, and lenses on 1/15/24, your next eligibility dates are:
Example 2: If you receive an exam, frames, and lenses on 7/15/24, your next eligibility dates are:
Example 3: If you receive an exam, frames, and lenses on 12/15/24, your next eligibility dates are:
